Berbuka dengan nasi :-)

Alhamdulillah, another day completed by Miss 11 and The Other Half. Miss 11 balik sekolah tadi kata she’s hungry, not thirsty. I guess that’s what happens when you fast during the colder months, you get hungry quicker. And the hunger gets stronger at home because you know there’s lots of food at home kan. Bukak fridge, ada food, bukak pantry, ada food :-). Luckily, she’s not the type yang asik bukak fridge aje tu.

Speaking of food, there will be a Multicultural Week at The Little Misses’ school next week and I’ve volunteered myself to make something traditional for the class. Dari minggu lepas lagi I pening fikirkan nak masak apa yang represents Malaysia and will be eaten by the kids at the same time. Yang pedas2 ni, memang tak kan di makanlah so nasi lemak and rendang are out. And then yang weird sangat pun won’t be eaten by the kids so paru goreng or sambal petai or kerabu perut are out (macamlah I tau masak paru goreng or kerabu perut tu, muahahaha). I ingat nak buat karipap yg senang tu aje but Miss 11 kata they are too common. And she suggested kuih lapis. I said to her, itu pun quite weird jugak sebab kenyal2 macam tu. She said, “Mum, even someone who’s fussy like me loves the kuih lapis. Of course the other kids will like it.

The problem nya sekarang, I buat kuih lapis ni baru 2-3 kali seumur hidup so it might not turn out that great. Buat malu kaum aje kat depan budak2 tu nanti kalau kuih I tak cantik kan, hehehe.

Kuih apa ye yang senang, sedap and mudah diterima tekak anak2 Mat Saleh ni and melambangkan Malaysia?

Poning palo makcik nak mikir! Dah lah masa tu tengah puasa, hish…..

Malam ni, I tak buat kuih sebab badak and choc cake from semalam ada lagi. Sape lah larat nak menghabiskan 12 ketul badak saiz XXXL tu semalam :-). Nasib baik The Other Half tersangat lah minatnya kat kuih ni (baru first time dia makan and terus jatuh cinta you!) so dengan rela hati dia makan 3 ketul sekali gus! I takut lepas ni badan pun akan ikut ala2 badak tu jugak, wahkahkahkah…… I rasa I kena sentiasa ada stock tepung pulut kat rumah ni kan, hikhikhik….

Since tak buat kuih for buka puasa, I masak lah something heavy for dinner. I made chicken maki sushi and japanese style lauk n rice.

IMG_4746

I lagi suka makan the japanese rice with lauk and sayur n nori tabur kat atas nya instead of di gulung. But The Little Misses lagi suka digulung so I buat lah yang gulung for them. The Other Half pulak, dua2 dia taram so dua2 pun I bagi ke dia, hehehe….

IMG_4750

I marinated the chicken breast in ginger, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, BBQ sauce, kicap manis, salt n sugar. Makan dengan stir fry beans n carrots.

I used to hate kacang buncis masa I kecik2 dulu sebab dia ada bau and rasa semacam. Actually sampai sekarang pun memang tak suka sangat2. Bila sampai sini, I memang tak makan any beans at all sebab ingatkan I ke kacang buncis ni. Until one day, I wanted to try masak stringless beans (sebab kesian kat The Other Half yang suka beans but dah lama tak makan beans). For me, rasa dia lain dari kacang buncis, more like kacang panjang a bit, so tersangatlah bolehnya tekak I menerima. So, sekarang ni, asik2 masak stringless beans aje, hehehehe…..

Hehe...kebetulan hari ni buat kerabu perut!

Presentation for the Japanese food tu sangatlah mengancam! You're goodlah! :-)

So, sejuk2 tu, kenalah you masak something substantial kan? Kan senang kat Mesia ni... buka jer...NASI! Muahaha!

LG .. selamat berpuasa (belated wish).

Kalau you buat pulut yg atasnya tempelkan inti kelapa (masak dgn gula melaka tu), boleh tak anak2 omputih makan? Tapi nak kena ada daun pisang. Well.. time to improvise LG.. :-)

LG,
You can make kuih raya for the kids at school. Sebab kuih raya looks a lot like cookies. I know Cornflakes Madu is a hit with tekak mat salleh because that's very similar to rice krispy's treat. Some of my friends really like dodol, but not sure about the majority :-)

Other than that, you can try spring rolls. Tapi banyak kerja la kena roll satu-satu. Or you can make satay. Instead of guna the long lidi, guna toothpick, so it'll look cute. And, don't bother about kuah kacang, chicken on the stick is good enough.

How about bergedel. That's a nice finger food too. Hehehe. I can go on and on.

LG, cuba la buat Samosa bawa pi sekolah anak... buat inti kentang + daging/ayam..

aloha lemongrass.
alhamdulillah ni dah masuk hari ke-3 puasa (i kerja pagi ni, tension pagi2 sabtu kat operation theatre org slalu bawak cakes, cookies, drinks, etc coz weekends).

anyways, i ada satu cadangan, mebbie buah melaka or jemput-jemput ikan bilis (yg diblend isinye). i pernah buat these masa international dessert night kat halls of residents masa kat uni dulu. people were surprised that dlm jemput-jemput tu ada ikan bilis coz u kno la ppl here ingat ikan bilis yg beso & huduh dlm botol jual kat coles tu kan. they loved the buah melaka as well, goo-ey on the outside & sweet burst of sugar on the inside.
well, just a thought.
selamat berpuasa :)

How about making apam balik or kuih bakar. As for as I know mat salleh tak berapa suka kuih yang lembik lembik. My hubby pun the same. He only makan kuih bingka, apam balik and kuih bakar because it is not steamed and tak lembik lembik :)

salam buatlah jemput jemput pisang/jemput jemput sayur (carrots, peas, chopped capsicum and chives rencahkan ikan bilis stock), tak pun goreng pisang with maple syrup, tak pun jemput jemput pisang.
kalau salad buatlah ala kerabu but use chicken breast thinly slice, add coleslaw cabbage, thinly chopped onion, cherry tomatoes, red capsicum thinly slice, coriander, few batang of serai finely chopped and blitz together with a bit of halia, lime juice salt and pepper to taste.
et voila.. my org putih youngs friends love them.
the banan friiter be it pisang goreng or cekodok was a hit.same with cekodok sayur.. cicah tomato ketchup mixed with a bit of onion..
what ever it is perisa is the key word.

Hanizatul,
I plan2 nak masak ni memang hari2 tp selalunya by the time nak masak, terus tukar plan lain, hahaha...
I guna kicap cair yg a bit pekat tu so dia tak masin sgt. Tapi buatan singapore. Kalau kicap M'sia, I tak tau lah kicap mana yg best :-(

Kak Emily,
Hehehe...macam tau2 aje kan yg you nak makan kerabu perut ;-).
Tu yg I rasa lagi pening nak masak bila Ramadhan ni sbb I have to make sure yg our dinner is quite heavy instead of just scrambled eggs on toast, hehehe.....

Ica,
I ni kan bab2 melapis, memang lah ada sikit allergic, hahaha

Wati,
Kuih tiram memang sedap tapi nak buat dia leceh kan sbb kena gulung and buat layers?
Part melambangkan M'sia tu yg I lemah sikit, hahaha

Cik Som,
Rasanya anak2 omputih makan kot pulut kelapa tu. Tapi pokok pisang tak tanam lagi lah, muahahaha :-P

CikLinn,
selamat berpuasa jugak utk Cik Linn :-)

T,
I thought jugak nak buat sate tu and guna toothpicks tapi I malas nak buat kuah kacang n nasi nya sama.
Spring rolls memang for sure will be eaten kan :-).

Kak Azie,
Samosa tu lagi leceh dr karipap, hehehe. And my daughter tak nak karipap.

Rima,
That's what my hubby suggested as well, buah melaka/onde2 without the sweet potato lah :-).

Aida,
I pun terfikir juga nak buat buah melaka tu sbb tak lah susah mana nak buatnya kan :-)

Hanizatul,
I kan tak pernah seumur hidup buat puteri ayu even though hajat tu besar sungguh, hehehe

Aquahartz,
Masa kat OT tu nanti, you jalan jauh2 lah fr the coffeeroom so tak ternampak all the nice cakes and cookies, hehehe....
I was thinking of making buah melaka as well :-)

ICook4Fun,
that's what I told my daughter because like you said, some Mat Saleh ni tak suka yg lembik2 kan :-). Kuih bakar will be easy peasy and sedap kan :-)

Naem,
Salam. Kuih buah melaka and kuih bakar tu memang senang and sedap kan!

Syaz,
Apam kukus sedap jugak kan and like you said, colourful! :-)

Anna,
I nak buat kuih yang melambang kan M'sia and konon2nya not that commonly known by the Mat Salehs. So, they can say wow, hehehe.
Pisang goreng kalau makan dgn maple syrup, rasanya dah bukan M'sia lah but jemput pisang and cekodok tu memang gerenti diaorang akan makan kan :-).

KayNisa,
cek mek molek ni yg pakai keledek dgn gula kat dlm tu kan? Sedap jugak kan kuih tu :-)

salam...lepat pisang, bubur kacang atau bubur caca :)

lemongrass said...

Zarith,
I kalau buat kuih ketayap, ada yg tebal and then ada yg nipis, pastu ada yg gemuk and then ada yg kurus, hahahaha...

Dinas,
mentang2 ada nori atas nasi tu, terus jadi ala2 japanese, hahaha

Kak Zai,
Kalau buat roti canai, dia kena panas2, kalau tak, tak sedap sgt kan?

Latifah,
tepung pelita pun cantik kan sbb ada layer tu. I kena buat experiment dulu on my kid, kalau diaorang suka, most probably Mat Saleh pun akan suka :-)

Indah,
salam Ramadhan juga utk Indah n hubby :-).
Barang dr Adelaide dah sampai?

Unsunghero,
salam.
Lepat pisang nak kena ada daun pisang, tu yg leceh sikit. Bubur caca sure cantik kan sbb colourful :-).
