It’s really fishy

I know that my family hasn’t been having enough fish in our diet.

So, since konon2 nya nak jadi makin healthy, we’ve decided to eat more fish.

I tak kisah, I suka aje makan fish ni.

Dulu masa I kecik2, boleh katakan hari2 makan ikan.

Siap tercekik2 duri and tulang ikan lagi tu!

Hahahaha…..

Tapi when it comes to fish, memang bermasaalah betul!

Macam2 demands kena dituruti.

First of all, ikan yang banyak duri macam ikan parang tu memang dah sahih2 tak kan boleh dibeli.

Takde sape yang berani nak makan ikan tu, hikhikhik…..

And then ikan yang ada tulang pun cuma certain ikan aje yang boleh.

Ikan kembung yang I suka sangat2, diaorang susah nak makan sebab they consider the tulang and duri to be too tiny so probability tercekik itu besar. Eye rolling smile

And then ikan sungai, The Other Half pulak tak berapa gemar the taste sebab dia kata the taste is muddy.

So, I yang jadi tukang beli ikan ni pening kepala lah!

Balik2 I beli fish fillet aje lah…

Different types of fish though..

And also fish steaks like mackerel steaks sebab tulang dia besar and kat tengah2 and a bit kat tepi so it’s ok for them.

And The Other Half likes salmon and tuna so sekarang I dah start buying salmon and tuna jugak.

(Dia punya tastebuds kan posh sikit, ikan nak yang mahal2 aje, hahahaha).

I pulak jenis yang memang tak kenal ikan pulak tu so tu yang balik2 beli ikan yang sama aje, hahahahaha.

Luckily sekarang tengah the month of Lent (which is the month leading up to Easter) so memang banyak lah seafood and fish going on sale.

For dinner malam ni, I masak yellowfin tuna steaks.

I made fennel and sesame crusted tuna.

The tuna steaks, I golek2kan on this fennel seeds, sesame seeds, ground black pepper and salt mix.

Then I seared them in a very hot pan for about a minute each side so they formed a crust but still quite raw inside.

Then I stirfry some kacang panjang, carrots and eggplants in oyster sauce for the vege side dish.

Which we all makan dengan japanese style vinegared rice.

And for us adults, I buat ‘kicap cili’ sos which is just soy sauce+vinegar+ginger+fresh chilli to sprinkle on the rice.

It was an excellent combination which really complements each other and everyone enjoyed it.

looking at the reddish colour made me lost the appetide to taste .. sorry :) mcm tak masak jerr ... but i love tuna .. i love salmon .. ( are they the same LOL .. boleh jadi confused pula ) apa pun selera dan minat anak-anak pada makanan ni bergantung pada ' selera' dan kreativiti ibunya memasak. The father normally will just follow cos they know they must ' like ' whatever the wife masak .. he he. Some kids .. telur goreng biasa pun dia orang kata .. mom's the best. See ... kuat betul penangan air tangan ibu. so keep on serving them fish .. try new types of fish slowly bit by bit .. he he .. sure everybody will soon learn to love it.

Shaty,
different people have different likes. A lot of people especially the japanese and including chefs like their tuna a bit rare like this so you can still taste the sweetness of the fish. That's why sashimi is very popular. There's no point buying expensive fish if we are just going to overcook them. There's a lot of things that I like which my hubby and kids dont like and I dont force it on them because there's a lot of things they like that I dont like.

UmmuAidan,
Salam. Memang bila citarasa tekak berbeza2 ni, macam2 demands dia, hehehe. Diaorang ni sbb jenis makan pakai knives and forks, tu yg susah sikit nak separate tuland ikan kembung. I suka ikan kembong sbb makan pakai tangan, hehehe

Sue,
Wassalam. Ikan kembung goreng garing lah yg paling kebaboom kan! kalau ada kicap dgn nasi panas aje pun dah sedap sgt2, hahaha.

Kalau I, confirm tak reti masak tuna ala2 chef ni - crusty on the outside but tender or slightly raw inside. Hehe. Memang kena lah dengan nasi & condiments you tu...alamak teringin sashimi hehe
My eldest son loves salmon too. Dia sangat foodie & ada taste ala2 posh jugak :P

Ummi Iqbal,
orang2 tua memang dah set dgn cara diaorang kan, hehehe. Mak I pun suka sgt2 ikan garing2 ni. I pun klu goreng ikan, mesti nak garing jugak, heeeee

Kniedaz,
Sedap aje actually masak mcm ni, sikit pun tak rasa hanyir. Tapi kena pandai pilih ikan jugak lah so tak hanyir :-)

Millie,
I had to stand in front of the stove to make sure I tak ter overcooked the fish. Kalau tak, orang posh kat rumah ni akan kata it's not as nice sbb tak pink, hehehe.
