The Other Half said to me, “you know what, I didn’t even think that I wasn’t eating peanut sauce when I was eating the nut sauce you made last night. It tasted just fine to me.”
I said to him, “that’s the most expensive nut sauce in the world and you are telling me it doesn’t taste different than the cheap peanut sauce?”

I made nasi goreng with sate on Friday night. So bila dah buat sate, kenalah makan dengan kuah kacang.
But my kuah kacang has to be the expensive version lah kan (orang kaya mengada2 lah katakan, hahahaha).
I guess it’s not as expensive as making it in Malaysia.
I used a mixture of walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds and macadamia nuts to make the nut sauce.
Let’s see….
Almond is the cheapest at around $9 a kilo, cashew nuts are quite cheap too at around $14/kg.
Macadamia and walnuts are a bit more expensive, macadamia at around $24/kg and walnuts around $20+/kg.
kacang tanah pulak cuma ek cheapo $5/kg kot, hehehe….
But in order for the expensive nut sauce to taste similar to the cheap peanut sauce, I have to use a mixture of the expensive nuts.
Kalau guna 1 type of nut aje, it won’t taste as nice.
It has to have the creamy nuts like cashews and macadamia to have that peanutty-type creaminess.
And maybe it would be creamier if you were to fry the nuts but I only roast them in the oven aje.
But if you were to only use cashews or macadamias, it’ll taste too different.
Thus, the mixture of all the other nuts.
I guess if you want to make it even more expensive, you can add the more expensive pine nuts or hazel nuts or brazil nuts.
But itu dah namanya menayang kekayaan pulak kan, heeeeee .
So, if you were to come to my house, memang tak jumpalah stock kacang tanah in my pantry.
Yang ada cuma kacang mahal2 aje, wahkahkahkah .
(But I still do stock peanut butter in the pantry, far away from the other food, just for The Other Half and my consumption when we have a craving to eat penut butter on toast when Miss 9 is not around).
Miss 9 said, “you make the best sate and I’m so glad you know how to swap the peanuts with other kinds of nuts so I can have nut sauce with my sate too.”
Isn’t that sweet of her.
Our Friday nite dinner of nasi goreng, sate and expensive nut sauce.
I grilled the sate on the stove top using a grill pan aje.
My nasi goreng guna perencah adabi.
And sebab Miss 9 and The Other Half suka sangat2 the sate, I let the two of them finished off the sate for lunch today.
Miss 13 and I makan benda lain, hehehe….

Sini kekacang cukup murah.
Tp tetap "kacang yg tunjuk ibu jari" tu x blh challenge kekacang Pak Sheikh kat sini.
Maka dgn x rasa bersalah sedikit pun Sham beli nuts yg dh siap dipanggang kalau nak buat kuah kacang atau kacang utk nasi lemak.
p/s; sebenarnya itu cerita org yg kurang rajin.. jgn tiru mcm Sham ya..
Susah juga ya kalau ada yg xboleh mkn peanut kat rumah....tp nasib baik LG pandai bereksperimen dgn segala mcm nut...kalau x...xsedapla mkn sate xde sos...

dulu2 masa I tak pandai berexperiment lagi, memang tak sedap langsung bila makan sate takde kuah kacang. Skrg ni, semua orang happy sbb dah dpt makan kuah kacang balik :-)
