Whose culture?

The Little Misses’ school will be having a “Multicultural Food Festival” in a few weeks time and we were given a note from school saying that it’s a fundraising event as well. Kat dalam note pun tertera, ‘We would appreciate if you supported the College by cooking and donating a popular cultural dish from your country of origin’. So Miss 6 said to me, “You have to cook something Mummy and take it to school but even though we’ve donated the food, we still have to pay for other food! It’s not free!” :-D Wouldn’t it be nice if we can get free food after we’ve donated some food, hehehe….

The question now is, since I’m the head cook in this household, it has to be food from my culture lah ye? Hmmm….popular food….. So many food comes to my mind, from nasi lemak to mee goreng to mee kari to roti canai to karipap to roti jala and kari ayam to nasi impit and kuah kacang or rendang ayam :-). Ini baru sikit aje kan, hehehehe. But one problem remains, kalau nak donate food untuk event macam ni, kenalah buat banyak2 kan! I ni memang tak tau nak masak untuk ramai orang sebab family I kecik aje and I pun bukannya selalu buat jamuan jemput berpuluh2 orang kat rumah ni, hehehe….. But the biggest problem is kemalasan yang surenya akan melanda bila dah dekat2 that day nanti, wahahahaha…. Awal2 macam ni memang excited konon macam2 yang I nak masak for that day but believe me, bila dah dekat nanti, I’ll get so ‘malas and kecut’ to make all the fancy dishes and then will end up just baking cakes or making mee goreng aje, hahahahaha….. I ni sebenarnya seriau nak donate food ni. Kalau I donate food and orang tak pandang and tak nak beli my food langsung, it’ll make me so so sad sebab nampak sangat nanti yang makanan I tak menggiurkan. Takkan lah I nak paksa The Little Misses and The Other Half beli all my food kan just to make me feel happy, hahahaha.

Kan best kalau The Other Half yang head cook kat rumah ni, so bagi dia yang pening pikirkan apa popular food from his culture yang he can donate ;-D. Rasanya kalau I suruh dia cook something, mau nanti, dia pergi derma sausages aje for other people to cook at the event, hehehehe….

But as usual, dinner malam ni (like every other day), I lah yang tukang masak nya. For everyone else I made crumbed pan-fried fish and chips and veges. And for me I made nasi goreng cili api (don’t worry, cuma 3 biji cili api aje I letak :-)) and makan dengan pan fried fish and veges. Itu pun sebab nak habiskan nasi yang berlebih from the other night sebelum basi. I malas nak sumbat nasi tu dalam freezer sebab sikit sangat2, tak berbaloi nak sumbat :-). And jagung tu pulak I ter rebus lama sangat2 (sebab sebok bergayut kat talipon) so jadi kecut terus, hehehe.

k.min, i wanna suggest a food. hehe.. saje je menyibuk. cuba k.min buat cek mek molek. buat 200 pun senang, tak time consuming. but rasanya aussie's sweet potatoes kena baked, takleh rebus sebab kalau rebus, dia akan absorb air byk nanti u need a lot of flour to turn it into dough. it's sweet and tak pedas, anak2 mat salleh sure boleh makan :D

Zaila,

Fiza,
Apasal ye macam tu? Memang sebijik mcm I lah, sampai aje hari tu, terus hilang semangat, wehehehe

Shidah,
klu bawak puding caramel, kena letak dlm bekas kecik2 kan so senang orang nak beli and makan. Pastu kena sediakan sudu bagai, hehehe... I ni kan terlebih malas dr terlebih rajin ;-)

CikSom,
apasal lah ramai betul yang satu golongan dgn kita2 ye instead of satu golongan dengan mereka2 yg macam Sizuka/Shidah tu, hahahaha...

Salam. Baru jumpa your blog. Very Interesting. I pun memang tak pandai jugak masak banyak2, setakat masak utk family aje. Apa kata you masak nasi lemak, tak banyak hal sangat. Yg lecehnya just nasi & sambal jek. Kalau susah2, just buat cekodok pisang jek. Tak pun lempeng pisang ala2 pankek malaysia. Sure mat2 saleh kat sana teruja tengok lempeng pisang hehehe

Ara,
kalau you ada kat sini, buat apa beli my food, kita gi beli food orang lain lah, hehehe... Buat2 tak nampak aje food yg I buat tu, hikhikhik

Lya,
tu lah kan, bergayut nya pasal, segala benda di lupakan, hehehe

Nadia,
I cuma rajin masak lain2 kalau tekak I yg mengada2 nak makan benda lain. Kalau the girls or hubby I yg ngada2 nak makan benda lain, tak kuasa lah I nak masak, hehehe...

June,
salam singgah ke my blog :-). Memang best and cantik kan Perth ni, tu yang I seronok tinggal kat sini, hehehe. I tak pernah pegi Mt Hawthorn tu tp suburbs yg dekat2 situ ada lah pernah.
Boleh aje nak jumpa I klu u dtg sini again :-)

Indah,
I ni yg 3/4 jowo pun lidah selalu terkehel bila nak ckp jawa, hehehe. You baru 3 tahun ye? Oh..takpe, banyak masa lagi nak lembutkan lidah tu ;-).

Yat Maria,
Hey, I haven't 'seen' you for a while :-). Have you been busy?
That's why I have to make food that I know will be accepted well by all these other cultures. Cakes would probably go down well :-).
I normally use either ling fillet or whiting for the pan fried crumbed fish. They are thick flesh so it's nice to make it into finger shapes.
We'll be going back to M'sia early Dec, insyaAllah..

Ayu,
hehehehe.... Oh..suggest pandai, kalau suruh buat, lari masuk bawah katil! :-P

Zila,
Salam singgah my blog. I tak tau kenapa you tak boleh tengok my photos. Maybe sebab I guna Windows Live Writer nak tulis blog and upload gambar kot. Some computers think it's a virus, rasanya lah. But I baru tau you sorang yg tak boleh tengok my photos. Tak tau lah klu ada orang lain yg have the same problem.

CikPid,
betul jugak kan. Kuih tu memang senang nak buat (tu sbb I slalu buat), hehehehe

Iaaini,
salam singgah ke my blog. Tu lah, I ingat pun mula2 nak buat nasi lemak and then pack siap2 dlm bekas plastik tu. Tengok lah nanti kalau rajin, hehehe...
