Jom kita beramai2 menyanyi kan lagu raya :-). The Other Half lah yang seronok sebab now he can go back to having coffee in the morning with me before going to work because I dah habis ganti puasa, hehehe. Seronok betul puasa masa winter ni sebab memang tak terasa sangat2 tengah puasa sebab tiba2 aje dah nak masuk waktu iftar. In a few years time, Ramadhan will fall during winter which will be so sweet and marvellous. The Little Misses lah yang akan seronok sangat2 sebab tak payah tunggu lama2 to break fast :-).

Tadi for dinner I teringin sangat2 nak makan yiros aka shawarma aka doner kebab but malas betul nak keluar and beli so I just made kebab using beef mince and makan dengan tomato and lettuce salad and garlic sauce and yiros bread. Jadi lah jugak nak satisfy my craving, hehehe… I baru terbaca kat wikipedia tadi yang yiros ni is a term only used in South Australia where we used to live but kat WA ni, it’s called kebab and kat Victoria, it’s called souvlakis. No wonder lah people kat sini tak tau yiros tu apa, hahaha….

Macam kat Malaysia jugak lah kan, lain negeri lain nama kuih tu. I can still remember masa I belajar kat Kulim dulu, I pergi keluar ke pasar malam or pasar jual kuih ni and asked for tepung gomak, pening kejap makcik jual kuih tu nak paham kuih apa yang I mintak sebenarnya. Pastu dia kata lah yang dia tak jual kuih tu, I pulak yang terkejut sebab terang2 I nampak kuih tu ada kat atas meja dia, takkan lah cuma buat display aje kan! Pastu I termalu lah sekejap cos I thought I got the name and the kuih mixed up but after fikir2 balik, I knew I got the right name. Then I tunjuk lah ke makcik tu the kuih yang I nak, dia terus kata, ‘Oh, ini kuih ………..’ ( I have completely forgotten what she called it :-)). Macam lah jemput2, ada yang panggil cekodok lah, cucur lah but I panggil jemput2. My kids panggil fritters! ( anak2 Mat Saleh kan, wahahhaha).

The Other Half lah yang menghabiskan all the garlic sauce. Tak larat I nak hidu the garlic breath!

Jom kita belajar bahasa lagi :-)… ( Tak serik lagi ni, hehehe)

Sediakan payung sebelum hujan’ which I think is similar to ‘prevention is better than cure’. But some people might not agree with that and think that ‘forewarned is forearmed’ to be a more similar proverb to ‘sediakan payung sebelum hujan’.

Ayat contoh:

The Little Misses and I still need to get our yearly winter flu vaccinations done as soon as possible, ye lah kan, prevention is better than cure :-).

Owh tringat masa sekolah rendah kat Selayang, selangor kantin sekolah jual kuih tepung gomak. And last few days borak2 dgn housemates and cerita la teringin nak makan kuih tepung gomak, and they said -- "what? tepung gomak? Mane ade?" Tapi both of them asal Shah Alam. So agaknya negri sama pun nama lain2 ;p

Hi LG,

I'm sooo happy that my peribahasa list is growing... thanks to u ;)
A question( unrelated to peribahasa) for u.. I'm getting a slow cooker.. will we need to top up the liquid every now & then or we can just dump all the marinated ribs and leave them be till they're cooked?

Thanks
Yat Maria

Yat,
I hope yr FIL tak pening kepala tengok the English version of my peribahasa. There's quite a few similar ones which makes it a bit difficult to choose the right 'translation' :-). Re: slow cooker, so far we've never had to top up the liquid because as the meat cooks, the juice will come out and it will moisten the meat. You just have to re arrange the meat a few times to ensure that all the meat's ocassionally covered in the juice during cooking. Or else, it might get a bit dry. Hope this helps:-)

Ayu,
I mana ada recipe, pakai campak2 aje every time, tengok bahan apa yg ada kat rumah :-). I asal Selangor, tu yg guna tepung gomak, hehehe

Irma,
wah, nama glemer abis, hehehe
