Kerana teringin

When I was growing up, one of the biscuits that never failed to appear every year on our coffee table during Raya was biskut mazola.

This was because, biskut ni yang menjadi kegemaran arwah Atuk I.

Setiap tahun, dia akan mintak my Mak to make it for him.

And believe me, dia akan makan biskut ni sorang2 dalam bilik!

hahahaha…..Open-mouthed smile

He would put the balang biskut dalam bilik dia, not on the coffee table untuk menjamu tetamu yang datang, no way Jose nak dibagi ke tetamu!

After every meal, he would take out a couple and have it for ‘dessert’. Sanggup di catu untuk tak bagi habis cepat, heheheh.

Punyalah sukanya dia kat biskut ni.

And then nak jadi cerita, dia suruh arwah Nenek I buat biskut ni and arwah Nenek suruh dia beli barang2 untuk buat dia.

Balik dari kedai, punyalah geleng kepala dia sebab tak dia sangka biskut yang dia suka ya amat ni agak mahal nak buat sebenarnya.

Because minyak jagung Mazola was quite expensive at that time. Minyak jagung lain tak boleh guna sebab tak sesedap minyak jagung Mazola according to my arwah Atuk, hahaha.

Pastu, bukannya boleh buat sikit2, kena buat 1kg kacang tanah sekali gus so banyak lah minyak jagung yang kena guna kan.

I pulak memang tak pernah buat biskut ni rasanya but I love to eat it.

And then, sejak Miss 8 is known to be allergic to peanuts, lagi lah memang takkan I buat.

But every raya, I akan terkenang2 biskut ni sebab biskut ni yang selalu menggamit memori zaman dolu2 masa I kecik2….

Tahun ni, I berazam nak buat biskut Mazola, one way or another.

Punyalah susah nak cari minyak jagung sebab kat supermarket biasa tak jual minyak jagung ni.

I kena pergi the Asian grocery shop baru jumpa minyak jagung.

Unfortunately bukan brand Mazola, hehehe.

Nasib baik lah harga dia tak semahal masa dolu2.

It was only $6 for a 2 litre bottle so kalau I nak buat segantang kacang pun tak jadi hal kan, hahahaha.

But then, disebabkan dek Miss 8, I had to improvise a bit.

I used roasted salted cashew nuts which luckily are easy to find kat sini.

I think cashew nuts would be the closest in taste to peanuts.

Other nuts like walnuts or almonds or macadamias won’t have that same kick.

And they turned out perfect!

They taste a bit different but not by much.

Kalau orang tak peka, memang akan ingat I used peanuts to make it.

I am very happy with the results.

But I tak buat banyak sebab cuma nak try the taste first. I guna resipi Lily kat MyResipi. and I baked them at 180C until they are a bit golden brown.

Miss 8 is very happy with the results as well.

Miss 13 lagilah happynya sebab dia sorang dah habiskan separuh balang!

She kept on saying, “this is really good. I can’t stop eating them.”

Boleh dia cakap dengan I, “Can you make this for Raya?

Dalam hati I berkata, “That was supposed to be for Raya but obviously I have to make some more now since you’ve eaten half of it already!

Hikhikhikhikhik….

So now, I can't call them biskut Mazola lah kan since I tak guna minyak Mazola and neither did I use peanuts.

Kena bagi nama baru macam ni nampaknya, hehehe

kdg2 minyak mazola x ada kat kedai, so i just use daisy corn oil.
kena tukar nama la...biskut daisy.
:-D

I've never given much thought/look to Mazola oil ni, but yesterday I saw them on the shelf at the supermarket and thought of you! Hehe. One medium-sized bottle was a little under USD5.

I've always loved biskut Mazola myself.

Blu4sky,
ye ke tgh hangat diperbincangkan? Nampak sgt I ni tak follow the same discussion group, hahaha.
I slalunya roast the nuts in the oven aje sbb malas nak menunggu dpn the stove menggoreng the nuts :-)

kak Kasih,
muahahaha...I boleh bayangkan betapa penatnya menggentel berkilo2 adunan ni.

Messyserabut,
memang I think a lot of houses ada biskut mazola ni masa raya because easy to make and tak banyak guna bahan kan :-)

Brad,
your Mama is trying to confuse people with the peanuts and the cashew aje. Why don't you and the gang help her make some of the cookies this year. But not sure if people will eat them though, hahaha.

Sooyaree,
Nasib baik bukan crsico, nasib baik minyak jagung Daisy, heeee

Pendragon,
you still ingat that story, hehehe. Memang my arwah Atuk kalau dia suka something, he would cherish eating them one by one. Tu lah I guess dia tak gemuk sbb dia ration his food intake unlike cucu dia ni, hehehe.

Unaizah,
Same with me. KalauI pergi beraya, memang akan cari the golden oldies. Because they are definitely the yummiest kan :-)

MM,
I think the sweetness of the sugar, the creaminess of the nuts and corn oil and the slgiht saltiness tu yg jadikan memang tak boleh berhenti nak makan kan :-).
Psst...I nak bagi nama dia biskut gajus daisy (sbb guna minyak jagung daisy, hahaha).

Ida,
Are you allergic to peanuts or you just dont like the taste?
Maybe you can try using cashews, mana tau you'll like it :-).

Bonda_tie,
ada jual kat sekolah ye? I tak ingat ada jual kat skolah I dulu ke tak. But memang sedap kan biskut ni. Nak buat dia pun senang sangat2, you should cuba :-)

Susumanis,
memang sedap betul kuih2 lama ni kan, tak lapok dek zaman :-)

Chekgu azrine,
I rasa orang dulu2 memang terer buat kuih muih ni kan. Orang skrg ni aje yg tak terer sikit buat kuih lama2 ni, hehehe

Lily,
mana cukup 3 adunan, at least kena 1kg of kacang baru cukup, hehehe. But nak menggentel 1kg tu yg siksa, heeeee.
I pun guna minyak jagung daisy jugak!

Dot,
I wish I could find corn oil easily here! I kena pergi the asian grocery shop to find corn oil but sadly only Daisy brand not Mazola, hehehe.
I wonder if Mazola is US-based?
