Persimmon and pide

Semalam we went driving further down south semata2 nak cari persimmons that are currently in season. Tapi bukannya drive jauh mana pun, around 30kms aje pun but in Perth, itu dah kira jauh, hehehe.

Kalau kat the shops, they are selling at $1.50/fruit which is ok lah harga dia. But semalam, when we went to the orchards, we got it for $12/box for the seconds. Seconds here doesn’t mean that the fruits’ been half eaten tau, hehehe. It only means that the fruits won’t be winning the fruits beauty pageant because of blemishes on the skins Smile.

They taste so gooooooooood…… So so sweet and creamy….. And for 50cents each, lagilah manisnya kan Open-mouthed smile. The Other Half kata, nampak gayanya kena pergi beli kat that orchard every 2 weeks lah sebab everyone loves persimmon including Miss 12 yang very picky with her fruits itu!

I tak kisah……I love going fruit hunting at all the orchards….

Hari ni for dinner I made turkish pide with mince topping.

I guna recipe from here untuk buat the pide base. This is the first time I buat pide menjadi macam pide yang jual kat kedai tu! Dulu2, kalau I buat, just jadi macam bread biasa aje, nothing different. Kali ni, memang rasa the chewiness with the holes inside as well. I followed the recipe to a T, I’m happy!

And the filling pulak I guna this recipe but I added a few other things and omitted a few things Smile. I tambah  about 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce and half a can of diced tomato to the mince mixture. And I guna beef mince instead of lamb mince.

I masak the mince filling dulu while the breadmaker’s kneading the dough for the pide.

And then, I bake the pide for about 8 minutes until slightly golden. Pastu I keluarkan from the oven and put the cooked mince mixture on top of the baked pide and then tabur a bit of grated cheddar and baked them again just until the cheese has melted.

Kena lah makan dengan salad kan, baru lah my tekak boleh terima, hehehe.

ME,
Kat sini pide tu so murah kalau beli kat turkish shop, panas2 and so sedap for $3 aje. But tadi malas nak keluar, tu yg buat sendiri, nasib baik jadi, hehehe.

Ayu,
Salam. First time I dengar nama dia buah kesemak. We all pun suka makan masa dia keras2 lagi tu. Kat sini, season dia cuma masa Autumn ni aje and sampai end of June. Tu yg bantai makan puas2 skrg :-)

Kak Nor,
kalau sekotak persimmon, kena tukar dengan seperiuk meehoon soto lah baru aci! hikhikhik....

Aunty LG,
Buah kesemak tu is the "bastardised" version of persimmon - loghat Trengganu - or is it pesemok? Masa duduk Sydney dulu, kita sanggup drive to Kurrajong, about 1 1/2hrs drive just to go pick apples Dec - Mar then persimmons and oranges....aaahhhh....I miss all that. OMG! Pide kebab is my favourite. Dulu jalan kaki 5mins from home. Balik KL ni banyaknya deprived....sabo ajelah. OK OK kalau nak balik Ijok 30mins only maa..... purrr....meow!

K.Min,

Iman and Iffah pun suka sgt persimmons tapi mama dia org tak larat nak beli. Kat Jusco, it's selling at RM4.99 sebijik. So kena tunggu persimmons ada jual kat reduced section baru boleh beli. But the persimmons tak secantik the ones yg k.min beli kat orchard.

alamak! nampak ur pide, tiba2 teringin la pulak nak makan tavuklu pide tu. I love it!! :D

Cat,
Wah, terer orang Ganu speaking 'persimmon' jadi kesemak, hikhikhik ;-). But memang I've never heard kesemak before. I guess sbb my family guna pisang kaki, don't know why pisang and don't know why kaki, hahaha.
I thought KL is the hub of food galore? But like you Cat, when I balik M'sia, I wont eat pide or kebab because tak sama like the pides and kebabs here, hehehe.
Next time I balik M'sia, kita jumpa kat Ijok ye. My girls will definitely adore you and your siblings!

Ayu,
My Abah pun suka sgt2 buah ni. Dulu dia pernah dtg Perth masa tgh musim biah ni, terus borong berkotak2 bawak balik, hehehe.

Bee,
I tak pernah rasa yg kering nya. Senang ke nak dpt yang kering kat M'sia tu?

Lurpak,
Best lah mcm tu kalau you sorang suka sbb gerenti tak payah share dgn sesape, hahaha.

Lisa,
They were really cheap! We wanted to buy more than 2 boxes but takut they would go bad before we could finish everything.
We bought them at Waterwheel orchards, on waterwheel rd, bedfordale. Right off Albany highway on your left if you are heading south. It's a few kms after the Albany hwy splits into Albany Hwy, South Western Hwy and Armadale rd.

Kak Zai,
Kat sini tgh musim persimmon skrg so tu yg klu beli kat kebun dia, memang murah sgt2 :-)

Shidah,
RM5! Kalau I pun tak larat nak beli walaupun suka mcm mana. Cheapskate kan :-).
