‘Restaurant’ food

I’m quite amazed at the reaction my previous post has generated from the readers of this blog.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all the encouragements, the warm loving thoughts and for the flatteries about my cooking abilities, hehehe.

It did get me down at first because I feel like they look down on us because they think we don’t have enough money to go out every so often and maybe they think we are cheapskates and scrooges for not wanting to spend money eating out.

She did say she kesian dengan I cos I have to cook every single night without any break, sure penat…

Like The Other Half said, “we have the money but we’d rather spend it on something else”. Smile with tongue out.

And no, this friend doesn’t read my blog and doesn’t even know the name of this blog.

And since we don’t entertain much, dia tak lah pernah kena jemput datang dinner to our house to see what kind of dinners I serve my family.

Setakat open house masa raya and the occasional makan2 get together aje lah dia dapat merasa my air tangan Smile.

Dekat Perth ni banyak restoran halal sebab ramai Muslims but mostly asian restaurants and middle eastern lah or seafood.

So, my friend yang sorang yang akan eat out every weekend ni slalunya eat out at the asian restaurants or the middle eastern or eat seafood lah.

For me, kalau kat asian restaurants ni, sometimes, baiklah I masak sendiri kat rumah aje, hehehehe…

And sometimes I rasa the food yang I cook pun dah ala2 restoran (sape lagi nak puji my cooking kalau bukan ny family and I kan, hahahaha) so tu yang buat The Other Half and I rasa lagi malas nak makan kat luar and waste money kat luar.

Baik I beli the nicest ingredients and cook them myself.

Like last night, this was what I cooked.

IMG_5544

See, tak makan kat luar pun we all dinner ala2 restaurant food kan.

I marinated the lamb racks in olive oil, rosemary, lemon slices, honey, mustard and salt.

IMG_6760

After searing the lambk racks in a hot pan, I transferred the racks into the baking tray.

IMG_5561

Laying them on top of a bed of roasted sweet potatoes and potatoes.

Bake them in a medium hot oven until cook to your liking.

I baked it for 30 mins and it was just perfect. Still pink and tender but not baaa-ing.

IMG_6768

We had it with gravy and the roast potatoes and veges.

IMG_6771

IMG_6773

Everyone devoured everything on their plates.

Lepas tu The Other Half said, “See! that’s why I don’t want to go out because I know you can cook it as well at home.”

Lain padang, lain belalang. Lain orang, lain dapur, lain caranya. Masing-masing ada preference so terpulang pd individu which way to go.

Sister LG,I strongly believe you're making a good choice!

I came across many health tips articles that tells me over and over again, the best way to maintain healthy family is through homemade cooking. We know what we put in our foods. Health experts endlessly are campaigning this lifestyle!!! and we can add more flavors and share with our dear friends.

Itu belum masuk lagi advantages of parents' homemade cooking,bab2 affection & love, and with the advantage to use our dollars & cents to other things that are more beneficial for us (I am 101% agree with your Other Half stand on this).

Bab2 makan ni, nampak je kecik tapi bila calculate sebulan, setahun, ALAMAK! PENGSAN! boleh buat downpayment kereta! :))))

For example mcm saya (1 person) kat sini breakfast, lunch & dinner- eating out costs : (5 USD + 10 USD + 10 USD) x 30 days = 750 USD permonth, and then x 12 months = 9000 USD. OMG!!! Ni estimate paling murahlah! But I'm homecooking, i am spending only about 300USD per month, and sometimes less- tengok mood makan.hehehe.

If I save money for three months, I can buy a high end canon lens to feed my passion in photogprahy and other things. I did this. and I am happy!:)

and other than developing skills (but not as good as sisters/brother here) Cooking is a good therapy for me :)

Sorry Sister LG, this comment getting too long. Couldn't help to leave you a comment after reading your voice.

My last note, Sincerely, your cooking skill is A.W.E.S.O.M.E!

oh Kak LG,

I prefer my mum's cooking, having it at home and i don't mind not eating out every other weekend.

and i love cooking at home for my family rather than keluar makan. it's like satu kepuasan bila i'm able to provide for my family (in terms of masak2 n prepare meals).

kadang2 i even kesian tengok orang asyik2 keluar makan di restoran.. left me to wonder, 'hm...wife dia tak masak kat rumah ke?'

p/s : restaurant food kadang2 overrated n tak sedap pun..

Hello sis, I've been visiting your blog quite frequently and I must say, I admire your culinary skill! I love to cook too but I just don't have the time as I am working full time and like most of the time?

I can't believe what I read when you said there are some people out there thought that people who dines at home most of the time, are cheapskate type of people. That's a terrible thought!

You should have shown this people what you got! :)
