Malam ni nak cerita about fish in general. Walaupun I grew up eating fish on an almost daily basis, I still can't identify all the common eating ones. Lagilah bila dah duduk sini and a lot of the fish takde rupa mcm fish kat M'sia. And on top of that semua in English. Nak cam ikan dlm Bahasa Melayu pun tak pass lagi, lagi lah ikan in English, hehehehe....To top it off, ikan ni pulak sentiasa bertukar2 nama depending on the country.
The reason I'm ranting about fish is because pagi tadi I pegi kedai ikan yang sell only frozen fish. Setiap kali pegi kedai ni memanglah terasa betapa cetek nya ilmu about nama2 ikan ni. Banyak pulak tu ikan2 yg di jual come from Malaysia and Indonesia. Ada ikan yg memang selalu jumpa kat M'sia like bawal /pomfret, kembung/ indian mackerel, grouper/kerapu, whitebaits/ikan bilis yg besar tu but ada gak yg tak tau namanya in malay eventhough it comes from around that area.
Hari ni teringin nak makan ikan sbb dah beberapa hari makan ayam and daging aje, tu yg pergi that shop. Anyway, found some nice whole cleaned barramundi there which I wanted to oven bake and then pour sauce on top and makan dgn nasi. I know I've seen that fish in M'sia before but don't ask me the name. So, balik tu googled barramundi and found out that it's called siakap in Malay, hehehe....Told you I'm hopeless when it comes to identifying fish!
So, tonite's menu was oven baked fish with my campak2 sauce. My campak2 sauce ni lebih kurang sweet and sour but I tambah serai, daun limau purut, cuka, coriander leaves so maybe it's a bit Thai then? But can it be called a Thai dish kalau takde fish sauce? ;-). I'll call it Thai sauce with malay influence then, hehehe.
