Playing with yeast

Another thing I like about Spring and Summer is the continuous gorgeous temperature for making bread.

During Winter times, memang lemau sikit perasaan nak buat bread itu sebab fikirkan kena switch on the oven to proof the dough or else kena tunggu lama gile for the dough to rise.

Everytime the weather is hot, memang rasa gatal sangat tangan ni nak keluarkan yeast and tepung Smile.

Orang2 kat rumah ni pun especially Miss 14  memang gumbira ria kalau tangan I gatal nak buat bread, hehehe…..

Freshly baked bread memang lah sangat2 sedap rasanya kan!

Kalau tengah kenyang pun terus lapar balik kalau terbau roti baru bakar!

Tak payah letak benda lain, just a slice of freshly baked bread and butter is heavenly enough!

If I want Miss 14 to emerge from her room, I just have to dangle fresh bread in front of her door, for sure dia akan keluar!

Hahahahaha…..

So, during the past 8 weeks, memang slalu jugak lah I bake breads, itu tak termasuk the weekly pizza.

Some of the breads I made.

Milky dinner rolls

It’s basically normal bread dough but instead of using water, I used milk so it’s a slightly richer dough.

I made cinnamon almond scrolls and red bean buns using the same sweet dough recipe. I pernah letak recipe ni before. Cari kat link tu ye.

Orang rumah ni suka sangat2 roti red bean ni!

Nasib baik bekal red bean paste I ada banyak lagi! hehehe

I also made doughnuts a few times using the same sweet dough recipe as above.

And I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve made this white bread.

IMG_8663

The 3 of them can finish up the whole loaf between the 3 of them in on sitting!

IMG_8664

And I also tried my hands at making turkish bread which failed miserably.

IMG_8879

They are still really good but not as nice as the shop bought ones.

And I also made the soft chewy pretzels ala2 Auntie Anne’s (even though I tak pernah makan pretzels Auntie Anne’s itu).

I got the recipe from here. Kena ikut all the steps including the soda bath. Itu yang buatkan the pretzels jadi chewy.

And do spend time to read the reviews and comments cos some of them give really good tips.

Malam tu memang we all kenyang makan pretzels aje! Smile

And today, since it was another hot day, I tried making Russian poppy seed bread.

I used to eat this when I was studying and when we were living in Adelaide.

Bila pindah Perth, tak pernah jumpa pulak roti ni kat bakeries kat sini so it’s been nearly 10 years lah I tak makan roti ni.

Memang sangat2 kempunan!

So, after surfing the net and jumpa a few easy recipes, I made this today.

IMG_9582

The black thing is homemade poppy seed paste.

It’s basically ground poppy seeds cooked in butter, milk and sugar. The taste is not that nice if you eat it as is but bila dah sapu kat roti, terus jadi sangat2 sedap!

IMG_9590

After it’s baked, I drizzled it with sugar glaze.

IMG_9595

Tu yang buat dia jadi bertambah2 sedap

IMG_9598

The girls have never had this before and they loved it.

IMG_9601

And also not forgetting the usual weekly pizzas.

Tiap2 minggu I kena buat 3 jenis pizza untuk 3 orang yang punya tastebuds berbeza2.

IMG_8596

Miss 14 as usual lah with her cheese pizza, Miss 10 skrg dah suka sangat2 serunding daging pizza and The Other Half pulak with his pineapple and chilli pizza.

IMG_8989

I slalunya makan benda lain whilst they were havign their pizzas cos tak larat tekak I nak makan dah!

Until one day, I tried making turkish pizza or lahmacun.

This one I can eat tiap2 minggu cos it’s completely different that then usual pizza

IMG_9320

It’s basically raw beef mince mixture spread thinly on very thin pizza-type base and bake until it’s cooked

IMG_9321

And then, you serve it with raw onion, lettuce, cheese and whatever else you want as filling and wrap it up.

IMG_9324

Sangat lah sedapnya.

Tapi the philistines in this household would rather have their cheese pizza every week than this lahmacun!
